WORK

PRIMARY EDUCATION

Ruma started a Primary School for Deaf Children when she realized that the best way to develop capable young adults is to instill learning and education in the formative years. Currently the NDS Primary Wing has more than 80 children from the age group of 5 to 15 getting formal education from Nursery to Class V. These students primarily come from Noida, Delhi and Ghaziabad and mostly belong to economically weaker sections of the society

The classes are graded based on skills and not age. The school follows the Bi-Lingual method of teaching educational content and core life skills, giving the children a strong first language i.e. Sign Language. This language then becomes the mode of communication and also a medium for teaching other subjects.

REMEDIAL EDUCATION

This is a special afternoon program for school going Deaf children. The focus of this program is to bridge the gaps in the education system for the Deaf students and develop core life skills. Through this project, these school going students from classes IV to XII are able to develop better learning capability in different subjects and enhance interest in formal curriculum.

Remedial Education supports students by providing education in Math, English, EVS, Personality Development and Indian Sign Language. Students are taught using Educomp. This improves teacher effectiveness and productivity in the class and makes learning an enjoyable experience for the students.

CUSTOMIZING CURRICULUM

NDS has created pioneering visual vocational curriculum mapped for Deaf youth and trainers. All teachers at NDS are themselves Deaf and serve as able role models and capable mentors.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Noida Deaf Society conducts market-aligned trainings to realize our vision to mainstream Deaf youth. We are pioneers in developing customized curriculum for easier comprehension through visual-aids. These trainings are conducted by Deaf trainers, who not only fill a much needed gap of role models but are efficient teachers as well.

Our trainings include: - Indian Sign Language - English Communication - MS Office - Keyboarding Skills - Networking and Hardware - Hospitality - Retail - Tally - Mobile Repair - Work Place Readiness - Competitive Exams Preparation

LIVELIHOODS

NDS has succeeded in transforming the industry perception and carving a niche for deaf youth in the industry. Till a few years back the only option available for deaf youth was menial labour. With customized curricula and market aligned training NDS has been able to provide the right skill sets to its youth. Intensive awareness building efforts have sensitized the industry. NDS has been able to change the situation and today Deaf employability has spread to different sectors including Hospitality, Retail, Data Entry, Education, and Manufacturing.
