We are happy to report that we have employed over 1450 Deaf youth in various sectors of the industry. The biggest milestone that has been achieved in the last three years is perhaps in the way deaf are now being viewed by the industry. Initially industry was not open to the idea of employing deaf youth fearing work slow-down, communication hassles or simply not being aware of the capabilities of deaf youth. They would often agree to support NDS monetarily but would not be open to employing our youth. Convincing the industry was a huge challenge. However, today the situation is different. One success story after another has helped in breaking a lot of myths about deaf youth. NDS has actively worked towards spreading awareness and sensitizing the industry. The quality and job oriented trainings at NDS have ensured that the youth have the skills that are needed to add value at the work place. With the right skills, a more aware industry and systematic processes to facilitate employment, NDS has been able to change industry perspective and today deaf are being looked upon as a capable pool of human resource. However there is still a gap between the opportunities available which are still far and few in between and the number of employable youth. Skilling the youth and bringing him/her at par with the needs of the industry is a time intensive process given the huge educational gap.
A total of over 1450 students have been placed until now in the above mentioned industries.
"I visited a store which is managed by Rajnish, a Deaf boy from NDS. Look at the Act II display he managed to maintain. The other category displays were done up very neatly and he has been able to get additional space in shelves along with floor stacks"
